Key values, principles and culture
Newmarket Seventh-day Adventists is the official church group of the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church in the city of Newmarket, Ontario, Canada.
The Newmarket Group is guided by the following key values, principles and culture in pursuing its mission and vision.
Loyalty to scripture: The bible, not culture, sets the standard for all conduct and decisions and is the test for all teachings and practice.
Respect for the gift of prophecy: The writings of Ellen G White are a divinely inspired and authoritative source of guidance, instruction, comfort and warning.
Vibrant and reverent worship: Biblical preaching and teaching are the central features of the worship service. Worship music is to be joyful, vibrant and reverent, avoiding the rhythms, beats and lyrics that mimic rock, rap, hip hop, pop and other similar music genres. We avoid the use of the drum kit.
Lay-driven leadership: Lay members cast the vision and mission of the church and should take primary responsibility for its fulfillment by engaging in leadership, preaching, teaching and other ministries.
Denominational unity: The votes of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in session should be respected and followed.
Quest for biblical holiness: The church’s sermons, teachings, activities and the lifestyle of its members should exemplify and encourage biblical standards of dress, eating, recreation, entertainment etc.
Health and spirituality inseparable: Church practices should align with biblical/Adventist health principles, including plant-based nutrition, to optimize the spiritual development of members.
Geographical multiplication: Rather than building a geographically centralized mega-church, the aim of the Newmarket group is to multiply many new church plants in unreached areas.
Quality over quantity: Thorough discipling and instruction regarding biblical standards, Adventist identity and message, will not be sacrificed for the sake of increasing the number of visitors and baptisms.
